Hanoi – Ha Giang – Dong Van – Meo Vac – Ha Giang - Hanoi


Day 1: Hanoi – Tay Minority Homestay (293km)
Drive from Hanoi to Ha Giang, a remote and a relatively undiscovered tourist destination in Vietnam ’s northeast. This is an area where local traditions and culture remain largely unchanged. This is a fascinating destination for those with a keen interest in Vietnam’s ethnic diversity. Lunch enroute.

On arrival at the Me village, check in to the homestay house-on-stilts of the Tay people which offers basic comfort but an unforgettable experience. Participate in daily life, enjoy the local hospitality and have a memorable dinner with a local Tay family.

Day 2: Tay Minority Village – Trekking – Cycling
Choice of:

Option 1: A full day trek uphill and along the Tay Con Linh mountain side through terraced rice paddies, tea plantations, remote villages and thatched-roof homes of the Tay people. Enjoy the scenery and take a picnic lunch on top of a hill before visiting the village inhabited by the Dao Lanten tribe. In the afternoon, trek down to the village and indulge in a traditional herbal bath or simple, relaxing foot soak using herbal remedies. (Grade: 4/5, Total 15km, 7 hours trekking)

Option 2: A full day trek from Me village through the paddy fields and forests to visit minority people at Phuong Do or Phuong Tien village, which is the oldest Tay community in Ha Giang and surrounded by terraced paddy fields with large houses-on-stilts.

Stroll around the village to experience the authentic spectacle of daily life. Observe the locals finishing their daily work in the fields and making their way home by buffalo cart and bike through the peaceful twilight.

The hospitality of a Tay family knows no language barriers at all! Enjoy a picnic lunch. In the early afternoon, trek down to the village and indulge in a traditional herbal bath or simple, relaxing foot soak using herbal remedies. Dinner and overnight at the Tay village. (Grade: 2/5, Total 9km, 4 hours trekking)

Option 3: A full day cycle and hike:

 

AM: Morning cycle around the Me village to experience a very authentic spectacle of daily life through the peaceful and pleasant mountain valley scenery. Lunch at the village. (Grade: 1/5, Total 2 hours cycling)
PM: Drive to Phuong Do village, the oldest Tay community in Ha Giang, surrounded by terraced paddy fields with large houses-on-stilts. Stroll around the village to experience the authentic spectacle of daily life.

Day 3: Ha Giang – Dong Van (160km)

 

A wonderful drive through extraordinary mountain landscapes and terraced paddy fields. Up and down, the road winds around the rocky mountain at elevations between 700m and 1,300m. Plenty of photo opportunities with a stop at Quet Tien market where the Nung, White H ’Mong, Po Y, Dao Lanten and Tay peoples all gather to conduct their trading.

Continue on to Heaven’s Gate and Fairy Mountain before reaching a White H’Mong village which specialises in flax weaving. Stop for a visit to a village of the Zao Ao Dai (Zao Long Traditional Dress) before lunch.

After lunch, drive up to visit an ancient White H’Mong village at an altitude of 1,432m. From village to village, the culture, costumes and inhabitants change but the smiles and warm welcome remain constant. Then proceed to Sung La to discover a typical H’Mong house before visiting a Lolo house and it’s people.

The Lolo minority is one of Vietnam’s smallest ethnic groups and live only in this region. Afterwards, visit the impressive ancient Palace of the H’Mong Kings before arriving in Dong Van town. Arrive late afternoon and check in to the hotel. Free.

OVERNIGHT IN DONG VAN. [Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner]

Day 4: Dong Van – Meo Vac – Ha Giang (170km)

In the morning, visit the Dong Van Sunday market which is one of the most beautiful minority markets in Vietnam. Admire the panoramic views of rocky mountains, cascading rivers and terraced paddy fields before reaching the peak of Ma Pi Leng. Visit Meo Vac with its cattle market and then proceed to visit the village of Zao Ao Dai for lunch. Return to Ha Giang.

OVERNIGHT IN HA GIANG. [Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner]

Day 5: Ha Giang – Hanoi (320km)

After breakfast, drive back to Hanoi. Lunch enroute.
Arrive in Hanoi and transfer to the hotel. End of services. [Breakfast, Lunch]
